City Highlights Guided Walk
Our popular City Highlights walk
Founded by the Romans, the City of London is the original city and is full of history and tradition and is today one of the world’s leading financial centres. We’ll show you places you wouldn’t normally find on the usual tourist trails and that you never knew existed!
Find out why what a Wren church built in the 1670’s is doing in Missouri, USA! We will journey through time, hearing about the Romans and their legacy, learn of monasteries destroyed after the reformation, how Shakespeare’s plays came to be saved and the devastating effect of the Great Fire of London and then the second world war.
We’ll see the 15c Guildhall, wander through alleys unchanged for centuries and see impressive skyscrapers with names such as the Gherkin, the Cheesegrater and the Scalpel. We’ll walk through the iconic Leadenhall Market.
This is a tour full of contrasts of old and new – the remains of a Roman fort at one stop and one of the world’s most environmentally friendly buildings at another!
We spend around five minutes at each stop and there is between three and seven minutes’ walk between stops, which include:
St Paul’s Cathedral (outside),Paternoster square, Greyfriars Gardens, Postman’s Park, Roman fort remains at Noble Street, Goldsmiths Gardens, St Alban tower & modern architecture Wood Street, Aldermanbury Gardens, Guildhall Yard, Ironmonger Lane, Bloomberg building, Mansion House, Bank of England, Royal Exchange, Alley ways, Jamaica Inn, Lloyds Building, Cheesegrater & Gherkin, Leadenhall market, The Walkie Talkie building, Monument to the Great Fire of London.
There are plenty of places for refreshment on route if needed and you are never far from a pub in the City if you want to wash it down with a pint of English ale afterwards!
